Fergus sent us a new chocolate Boy . We are in the process of adopting him from Labs4Rescue and we are so excited. I knew the short version of how our soon to be Ozzie and his siblings were dropped at a shelter but now as I chat with his Foster Mum, I'm finding out more. I hope she doesn't mind me putting this in but it so needs to be heard. This is just one example of cruelty, the only word I can think of. So many other Lab Rescues and dog rescues, face similar stories.
The following is excerpts from her email.
"Another Labs4Rescue volunteer and I saw them at the shelter the day they were dumped there. They were so pitiful and sick looking. They were covered with scabs all over, and the yellow one I have now had an abscess on his head. I could clearly see that they were crawling with fleas. I'm telling you, I was absolutely horrified. The fleas on the yellow babies were the most apparent. Just on the flank of one of those guys, I could see probably 30 - 40 fleas crawling all over. We knew we would pull those babies, but I didn't want them sitting in the shelter covered in all those fleas until we could get them, so I went to the vet's office and bought 7 capstar tablets that I took back to the shelter for them to give to the puppies. I was so worried they would die from anemia.......the vet said they were just full of worms - every kind. They were wormed there and were sent home with additional worming medicine. "
Ozzie's foster Mum went on to tell me how sick our Ozzie had been and she hand fed him boiled rice and shredded chicken so that he would get food into him and gain some strength.
The 16 x 20 beginning painting above is from a photo she took at the shelter. The eyes of the pups spoke volumes to me. So, you will see daily updates of the painting and when finished I will be offering it with 100% of the proceeds going to Labs4Rescue.
Remember to spay and neuter your pets. Give to your local shelters so they can help save lives. And thank the volunteers who bring these sweetys into their homes so they have a chance to find their forever homes.
Thank you Kristi!!!!!!
